"The Untold Story of Power Begins...."
This is an article about a film of Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, existing in a different continuity from the TV series. |
---|
Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy (PRLG 2014, can be preferred as Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy 2014 or Lost Galaxy 14) is a fan-film, to the Power Rangers franchise and based on one of Saban's entries in the show, of the same name. It is the first fully made installment in Marsh's Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy (Fan-Film Series), after many attempts by him were planned a decade prior when he was younger before and after being of age in the early 2010s and when a fan film attempt of Lost Galaxy by him had been stuck in Development Hell until this point. It was originally set Summer 2014 release, but it was pushed back to Fall 2014. It is the 10th fan-film project attempt entry of Lost Galaxy and it is the first of a trilogy of films, part of the Marsh-Verse. Starting with this film, this has nothing to do with the actual TV series itself, it's a fan-film that was directed, written, produced, by Anthony Marsh, Jr with the film also edited by him and voice roles for the characters.

Main article: Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy (Fan-Film) - Story and Plot)
In 2014, 5 new adult individuals -Tony Marshall , Gwen McQueen , Will James , Browne Jones and Thorne Campbell- begin "their" journey as they retrieve the legendary Quasar Sabers to become to new Lost Galaxy Power Rangers while they also travel across the dark centers of space onboard the Terra Venture Mark II space colony. The main villain in this reboot film of the series is Lord Metarex, grand ruler of the Dark Galaxy and leader of the evil Zeon Empire, as he begins malicious conquest to destroy and conquer the entire galaxy.
Leo and his team (Mike, Damon, Kendrix, Kai, and Maya), known for being the Galaxy Rangers in the prime universe, are not in this film nor in this universe. This is Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy - reimagined, which means new Rangers, a new take on familiar fan-favorite villains (such as Villamax and Treacheron), renewal of the Galaxy powers, zords and lore and, most ultimately, a new Villain. It was been confirmed that the original Magna Defender makes an appearance in this film starting in the middle of it all the way to the climax.
Trakeena was originally going to be in this film but was rather cut from this film and was saved for the sequel and spin-off.
Non-Profit/Commercial Marketing and Promotion
Like Marsh did in 2011 for his previously proposed PRLG fan film The Rise of Trakeena, which didn't fare well that year and had a small promotion campaign despite its non-existance, the Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy 2014 Fan-Film has a unofficial Facebook Fan-Page for anyone who uses the site to give him some support on the fan-film's existance. The page is more likely made for those who are and/or were fans of the Lost Galaxy series of the show. As of March 2013, its Fan-Page has reached up to 5 likes. As of late November 2013, the fan-film 's fan page on Facebook has now reached more than 60 likes. On March 29, 2014, the fan-page has reached its 100 "Like" milestone.
The fan-film has a YouTube channel made by Marsh, since August 31, 2012.
Release Date
The fan film was original projected for a July 4, 2014 release but it later got pushed back due to more time in post-production and multiple cuts being made. It was later going to be pushed back on November 5, 2014 but on August 17, 2014, Marsh has decided to release the film on October 17. On November 4, 2014, after having receiving a copyright notice from CD Baby for a song sample featured throughout the film in a portion, the film was taken down quick and has been again postponed for a November 21, 2014 release.
Reception
Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy 2014 drew criticism regarding its production value and the choice Marsh made making the Fan Film to be a Paper Puppet fan made film rather than fan films at the time (like Zordon of Eltar, Teenagers With Attitude, and the canceled Dominic Sivilli created MMPR) that had live action actors, crowdfunding, and fandom interest.
The fan film was universally panned. Marsh was given critical backlash and online harassment for the fan film by some on the Power Rangers forum site, RangerBoard, whom in their Fan Film Discussion [No Fundraising Allowed] thread between 2013 and 2014 ridiculed the film and Marsh's rising prominence on YouTube (even this very fandom wiki) until Marsh (as PRLostGalaxy2014 on YouTube) was ultimately and permanently banned from being apart of the forum. However, Marsh was never a member but he took notice of those in the following criticized and called him out to be a "Troll". He was such assumed to be trolling. Fans that heard of Marsh making this film were enraged with his idea of his 2014 fan project being a puppet film where the characters are made of cardboard and paper rather than an actualized live action one.
For example, a commenter on one of Marsh's videos in 2014 stated "Nobody fucking cares what you have to say. You fail as a movie maker. No one fucking cares about your videos. Your [Power Rangers Lost Galaxy] fan film is going to suck." while proudly stating he "Can't wait to watch MMPR, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: First Wave, Teenagers With Attitude and Zordon of Eltar and Saban's new MMPR movie is already better(s) than your stupid PRLG movie. Stick to your day job. Stop playing with puppets. Growing the fuck up. Fucking faggot." The commenter in which made the point but it deterred Marsh. A video response to the person was made by him immediately.
The film was criticized for its production value most of all. At the time, Marsh was living with his father (until his death in September 2015) and his brother (whom as "DrunkenRiderX" on RangerBoard explaining why Marsh got the online harassment he received during the time the project was made), and couldn't afford to be on his own. Pretty much living at home in between the house basement and bedroom when the film was made. The gameplay recordings for games like Grand Theft Auto V (on PlayStation 3) and Call of Duty: Ghosts (also on PlayStation 3) were that of camcorder quality rather than actual game capture. One person on the board commented about the game footage spliced in between the film's original footage was like "If he was showing us a game demo or something".
In regards of the use of Paper Puppets, one person on RangerBoard remarked how the puppets for the Power Rangers, Villains and others in the film reminded him of the 1999 short lived Nickelodeon series Angela Anaconda.

As of 2016, the sequel is titled Power Rangers Lost Galaxy: The Wrath of Trakeena. It was intended originally to be called once more The Rise of Trakeena (a fan film by Marsh that had taken 7 years in Development Hell) as a remake of said abandoned film. It was originally going to be released in 2019 for Power Rangers Lost Galaxy's 20th Anniversary but was changed for a release in 2018 with the year overall being the 25th Anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise. The Wrath of Trakeena was released on June 29, 2018 on YouTube.
An Extended cut was released the same date a year later, around Lost Galaxy's 20th Anniversary. The Wrath of Trakeena is the first and only Power Rangers fan film to have a 3 hour runtime.
After 2 years of The Wrath of Trakeena's conclusion of production, Marsh announced a spin-off film of his Marsh-Verse Power Rangers Lost Galaxy fan series would take place with Trakeena as the starring villain slated for a 2019 release. He made the announcement in October 2017 on his personal Facebook and the fan film series' Facebook and Instagram pages. The spin-off, Trakeena: The Insectile Queen of Darkness, was released on October 2, 2019 on YouTube. It is the lowest viewed film in the series. As of 2021, to capitalize on many film and TV franchises expanding on and exploring Multiverses (Power Rangers included), the spin-off served as a bridge between universes: The Marsh-verse and the upcoming Lightning Universe (codenamed PRLU).
A third and final film of his initial fan film series, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy: Infinite Frontier, was in development, currently in production due to major delays in completion.
He had plans on another fan film reboot of the series, this time with the characters being the same names as the original Galaxy Power Rangers but with different backstories with that film being part of what will be Marsh's new Power Rangers Legacy Universe series.
Power Rangers Lost Galaxy 2014 - The Complete Edition (2019)

This new cut contain some new footage of scenes that wasn't present in the original which will also include a Megazord battle that was absent from this film since its production originally in late 2013-early 2014 and will include partially an alternate music score to replace what music was considered "Copyright" on YouTube by CD Baby and Believe Music when the fan film was originally uploaded.
The Extended Cut, known as Power Rangers Lost Galaxy 2014 - The Complete Edition, was released on January 29, 2019.
